Former Bayern Munich defender William Sagnol showers praise on Mario Gomez - Bundesliga News
Former Bayern Munich and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 defender, William Sagnol, has showered praise on Mario Gomez for being consistent throughout the season. He also reckoned that Bayern have the best available squad in the Bundesliga but are short on options when it comes to
attacking.
Sagnol was talking ahead of Bayern’s upcoming league game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 at Coface Arena. The match will take place on Saturday, November 26.
The former right-back opined that the Bavarian giants might struggle if Mario Gomez gets injured at any stage of the season. He was of the view that Bayern are short on strikers and the backup players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivica-Olic-c17399 and Nils Petersen are sadly not up to
Gomez's standard.
He advised the Reds officials to try recruiting a quality striker during the next year’s summer transfer window in order to leave themselves with an option of resting Gomez. Sagnol also urged his former officials to allow Petersen regular playing time alongside
Gomez in order to provide him with a learning curve for future assignments.
While talking to Bild, the 34-year-old further enthused:
"Bayern will have a big problem if Mario Gomez picks up an injury and is unavailable for a while. In my opinion, he is the only player at FCB who is irreplaceable.”
The player represented Bayern for most part of his career and managed 184 senior team appearances during his nine-year stint at Allianz-Arena. He also scored seven league goals during the process.
Sagnol also commented on Bayern’s chances of attaining domestic silverware this season. He believes that Jupp Heynckes’ men are strong enough to lift the Bundesliga title this term but casted doubts over the club’s Champions League chances.
However, the former centre-back congratulated Bayern on progressing through to the Champions league knock-out stage.
"I hope that they will win the Bundesliga title. They should focus on their own performances and not pay too much attention to Borussia Dortmund and Schalke. They have more quality than any other team." Sagnol concluded.
Bayern are currently second in the Bundesliga with 28 points from 13 games and will return to league action on Sunday against FSV Mainz.
