Former Blues manager Avram Grant confident Andres Villas Boas will be successful at Chelsea
Former Chelsea care taker manager Avram Grant revealed he was confident the new http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager Andres Villas Boas could succeed at the London club despite being on 33 years old.
The former FC Porto manager was appointed Chelsea manager, replacing Carlo Ancelotti, after a highly successful season with the Portuguese giants.
While Grant admitted the Portuguese manager was young and inexperienced, he felt his personality more than made up for it.
Grant said while speaking to reporters:
“He is a very nice guy, is intelligent, a nice person and I enjoyed being with him, even if it was for only a short time.
Does he have the experience? No. But the authority? Time will say. I think yes.”
Grant has previously worked with Andres Villas Boas at Stamford Bridge while he was director of football during Jose Mourinho’s reign at the London club, with the Portuguese working as a scout.
He also revealed he had observed the young manager at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, during which time he displayed perfect authority.
He continued:
“When I saw Porto and how the players behaved towards him, the players liked him and he had authority, so he can do it also here.”
It was Villas Boas who led the Portuguese giants to four seasons last season, including the Primeira League and the UEFA Europa League.
His victory in Europe makes him the youngest ever manager, at 33 years old, to have won the second tier European competition.
The former Chelsea manager was confident Villas Boas could repeat his success at Stamford Bridge, he said:
“As a young coach, he will take some things from here, some things from there, but as far as I have heard of him from last season, he likes to keep his own personality, his own way of how he looks at football - and you can see that his team plays a little
different than Mourinho.”
Despite everyone claiming Villas Boas was similar to mentor Jose Mourinho, Grant said the youngster was extremely different from the Special One.
He was confident Villas Boas’ personality would help him handle the players at Stamford Bridge, which would ensure his success at the club.
With the Blues having paid €15 million to FC Porto for Andres Villas Boas’ release clause, they will expect results in the first season.
Even with the pressure of delivering silverware in the first season, Grant said he believed Villas Boas would do well at Chelsea.
