Former Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts official, Bill Polian, honoured with Bills ‘Wall of Fame’
Bill Polian, who has been credited to help groom a number of teams during his professional National Football league (NFL) career as an official, has been honoured by the Buffalo Bills with his selection to their official ‘Wall of Fame.’
It is the team’s own official award, quite different from the ‘Hall of Fame’. Portraits of its winners are hung on the wall that rings the Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Polian will be the 28th official to have been honoured by the team. He will be conferred the award at a ceremony details of which have not been disclosed by the team yet.
Polian, who was sacked this year as vice chairman of the Indianapolis Colts after having spent over a decade with them, worked as general manager of Bills from 1986 to 1993.
He helped the side record many achievements during the course. He is credited for helping Bills win the American Football Conference (AFC) championships four times.
During that period, he was also elected to be the National Football League (NFL) executive two times.
So, it is not only the Colts that have benefited from the vast experience and talent of Polian, other teams such as Bills have had his much needed help in their rebuilding phase.
His Colts career was the most remarkable, as he was the main force behind bringing in one of the most successful quarterbacks of the team, Peyton Manning.
Manning, the only four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NFL, proved through his superb performance over the next 14 years that Polian’s choice was credible one.
Even Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, admitted that he had applied Polian’s method of assessment for analysing their rookie quarterback, Andrew Luck, this year.
It was just unlucky for Polian to have been made a scapegoat of one poor year of Colts on the field.
He was sacked by the management along with his son and other officials soon after the team came out of their one of the worst NFL seasons. Colts managed to record only two wins during the entire 2011 NFL season.
Polian has returned to television since his release by Colts. He currently comments on different aspects of the game as an analyst at the ESPN television network, and is well taken for his comprehensive and matured analysis.
