Former Calgary Flames GM Darryl Sutter joining Los Angeles Kings as Head Coach -NHL Update
It is no surprise to see that the Los Angeles Kings have been struggling ever since the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season kicked off back in October, but now on the way to rebuilding the team through proper management, the team has announced
that former Calgary Flames general manager, Darryl Sutter, will be joining the club as their new head coach.
Darryl Sutter, one of many hockey bred Sutter’s spread throughout the league in the form of players and coaches, has vast experience in the NHL as professional hockey player along with coaching the Calgary Flames and then holding the position of general
manager until relinquishing it recently on December 28, 2010.
It is reported that Sutter agreed on coming on with the fragile Los Angeles Kings after talks on Tuesday through some sort of deal which has not been released officially by the organisation.
Sutter is well known for his coaching experience with Calgary Flames as he was the coach that led them to the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals, which they lost in a close seven-game series with the Tampa Bay Lightning and nearly won the championship.
Having Sutter on the team, who like newly hired St. Louis Blues head coach, Ken Hitchcock, is stern and strict in terms of dealing with his players, will be something they require and think would be useful in order to change the tables around in terms of
performance.
“I can tell you from coaching against him, his teams didn’t take many shifts off and they compete at a high level,” Hitchcock said about playing against Calgary Flames when he was their head coach.
Los Angeles is way down in the rankings at the moment in terms of having a team so highly skilled as they set a new NHL record by having scored only two goals in their past 10 games which has put them at the number 11 position of the Western Conference with
32 points and coincidently at par with Calgary Flames, who have better days to see than now.
It will certainly be interesting to see whether Darryl Sutter is what Los Angeles needs at the moment to get out of the losing web they currently are stuck in at the moment.
