Former Charlotte Bobcats’ guard Larry Hughes seeking a comeback in NBA
The last time Larry Hughes was seen in action in NBA was in the 2009-2010 season, when the point guard played 45 games with two different teams, New York Knicks and the Charlotte Bobcats. Larry ended the season with the worst performance
of his career as he managed to register only8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in more than 24 minutes of playing time.
The result was that Hughes failed to secure a deal in the free agency that followed and had to sit out the whole 2010-2011 season.
Now, after missing all of the last season, Hughes is anxiously waiting for the NBA owners and players association to make a settlement on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement so that he can have a shot of entering the NBA circuit
again.
While talking with the Washington Post recently, Larry Hughes declared that he is seeking an NBA comeback once the league gets back to business and that he never wanted to miss a whole season.
“Obviously, I wanted to play. At the same time I wanted to be stable. I didn’t want to go to a situation where it was a one-year deal, or partial guarantee deal where at any time you could be out of there moving on. I wanted certain
things after moving around the past three years, to different teams, I wanted something solid. If I didn’t get that, I wasn’t coming back.
Larry Hughes was drafted by Philadelphia 76ers as the eighth overall pick during the 1998 NBA Draft. He earned the reputation of a decent scorer and a rebounder early in his career however; he never played a complete season with
any team. In fact, it was only twice, when Hughes played 70 games in his 12 years of NBA career.
The 12-year- veteran played in seven different teams which include Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Charlotte Bobcats. One of the major reasons
Larry Hughes was traded so frequently by the NBA franchises might be because of the number of games he missed every year. And that might be the case Larry was unable to get the kind of a deal he wanted after the 2009-2010 season.
Last month, Hughes participated in the Impact Basketball Competitive Training Series where he announced that he has no plans to retire at the moment and he believes that there are still some good years left in him.
“I still got some game left. Having a role on a team, a contending team, is what I’m looking for. We’ll see how it goes.”
He want to join back with a title contender, but the question is whether such a team will be willing to invest on a tested veteran.
