Former Charlotte Bobcats player Derek Anderson indicted for financing cocaine ring: NBA News
Former Charlotte Bobcats and NBA player Derek Anderson has been accused of financing a cocaine ring it has emerged. The accusations have been made by Francois Cunningham who was arrested and charged for murder.
Cunningham belongs to Kentucky, where Anderson grew up and went to the college. He told police that he was involved in purchasing of cocaine, two to three kilos at a time at a rate of $20,000 per kilo. Moreover, he also admitted
that he was the cause of the death of two people after he threw Molotov cocktail in their vehicles supposedly.
Cunningham is giving additional information regarding the murders committed by his associates and also about the drug organization to make a pact with authorities “for early release.”
Anderson’s name also popped up during one of the interrogation sessions and Cunningham claimed that Anderson financed drug operation.
During that taped interview, the investigator asked Cunningham, "Was Derek Anderson ever present when you all bought narcotics?"
Cunningham replied, "Nah, he stays away from you know, he's just the money and he's not going to get around any of it but, that's who funnels the money."
So far Anderson has not been charged with any crime in this case, as the police don’t possess solid evidence against the former National Basketball Player. In addition to that, the statement given by Cunningham is also not considered
as a sure thing since he didn’t provide any evidence against him.
There is also a possibility that Cunningham might have given a impact statement in order to get maximum leverage in his case.
The legitimacy of Cunningham’s statement has yet to be confirmed, but Anderson has already released a statement through his attorney at law in which the 37 year old has rubbished the notion that he was “involved in any illegal
activity.” Anderson’s attorney also mentioned that now his client wouldn’t make any further comments in this regard.
The NBA players are in the news for all the bad reasons these days. Just a couple of days ago, Anderson’s ex-teammate from Portland Trail Blazers, Zach Randolph also got into police trouble of the drugs issue. The drug dealer made the accusation that he was
beaten at Randolph's residence, where he went to sell drugs.
Anderson began his professional career back in 1997, when the Cleveland Cavaliers picked him up as 13th overall from the NBA draft. During his 11 seasons in the league, Anderson remained with seven teams (Cavs, Los Angeles
Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Charlotte Bobcats) and earned almost $58 million. He was also a part of the Heat unit that won the Larry O’Brian trophy in 2006.
