Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins on the next Blues manager; Guus Hiddink and Harry Redknapp
Ray Wilkins, the former Chelsea assistant manager, revealed he was disappointed at the way the London side had treated Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The 51-year-old was sacked after the last English Premier League fixture of the season, for not being able to deliver any trophies this season.
The trophy less season came just 12 months after Ancelotti led the Blues to their first ever domestic double of the English Premier League and the FA Cup.
Wilkins revealed the search for the next manager had begun and despite a host of manager’s being linked with the job, very few actually stood a chance.
Former Chelsea manager’s Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink were originally favourites to make a return to Stamford Bridge.
However, Mourinho ruled himself out, claiming he wished to remain with La Liga giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid for the remainder of his contract.
Hiddink on the other hand, insisted he intended to honour his contract with the Turkey national side but did not entirely rule out a return to Chelsea.
It is highly unlikely that Hiddink will not take up a managerial role at Chelsea, but there is a possibility he could take over as the new http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Director.
Wilkins said he felt the Dutchman would have made a good manager for the Blues, having proved himself earlier.
Hiddink took over from Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari in the 2008-2009 season and led an out of form Blues to an FA Cup finish.
However, the former Blues assistant manager did not think the 64-year-old would leave his current post as Turkey national side manager to take over the London side.
He also discussed the possible appointment of Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager for next season.
Surprisingly, Redknapp has emerged as the bookies favourite for the Chelsea http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, but Wilkins did not feel he was the right man for the Blues.
He admitted Redknapp had done an amazing job at White Hart Lane but felt the Englishman could not handle the pressure at Stamford Bridge.
Wilkins felt the Blues would be better off going along with a foreign manager, rather than an Englishman like Harry Redknapp.
Wilkins said in an interview:
“Guus is a very honourable man and I would imagine he'd honour his contract with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026.
I wouldn't have a clue who they're going to employ but I sincerely hope from the players' point of view that he's the right guy and can make things work.
I think it (Chelsea's next manager) will be someone from abroad.
Whether Harry would want to do it or not, I don't know. He's done a remarkable job with Tottenham in the last couple of years.”
Redknapp is currently the favourite to be signed as the new Chelsea manager, but the likes of Marco van Basten, Pep Guardiola and Andres Villas Boas have also been linked with the job.
