Former Chelsea defender and French legend Frank Leboeuf has offered the Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas support in his decision to leave out experienced players from the first team in important fixtures.
The 34-year-old Portuguese manager has come under severe criticism for leaving out the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003, away from home.
The Blues ended up losing the fixture 3-1 and the loss was blamed mostly on the absence of the experienced players. It is now believed the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss will be sacked as manager of the club before the end of the season.
Many other managers have been linked with replacing Andre Villas-Boas as the manager of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss Rafael Benitez. However, Leboeuf revealed he was supportive of Villas-Boas’ decisions up until now.
The former Blues defender revealed he had been watching his former side very closely over the years and felt they had been caught in a vicious cycle where the same players were used again and again. In his opinion, the monopoly had to end before it brought
the club down further.
The Frenchman urged the fans to be supportive of the manager and his decisions at this crucial point in their season. He felt the transition period was important since it would ensure the success of the club, not in short term but in the long haul.
Leboeuf said while speaking to reporters:
“For the last three years I have said that most players at the club are at the end of the cycle, now it’s getting worse.
Whilst they are still good players, they have to go because Chelsea have to start a new cycle, with a new team and a new squad."
While he supportive of Andre Villas-Boas, Leboeuf was certain the Blues would end up without any trophies this season. It’s true, having already been knocked out of the Carling Cup and the title race, Chelsea’s chances in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions
League look slim.
He revealed:
“It’s up to [Andre] Villas-Boas to make sure he’s picking the right players for next season. This season is already over [at] Chelsea.”
