Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly backs Manchester United to win the Premier League this season: EPL News
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 legend Marcel Desailly believes that Manchester United will win the ongoing 2010-11 season and Chelsea’s inconsistent campaign is the reason they cannot retain their title.
The former Chelsea defender, who spent almost six years with the Blues from 1998-2004, believes that his former employers have been really disappointing this season as a lot of people had high hopes of them after winning the English Premier League and FA
Cup last season.
Desailly said while talking to the reporters, “Manchester United should win the league. They just keep going, always just ahead of everyone else. They have the consistency which other teams do not. You cannot help but be impressed Chelsea have been too inconsistent
and too many of their best players have been injured at the same time. I have been disappointed to see Chelsea with so many problems. Some signings have taken too long to adapt to the team, which has cost them too many points.”
The 42-year-old predicts that the backlash of this season’s performances could find manager Carlo Ancelotti in trouble and he might be sacked at the end of the season. However, he added that Chelsea have qualified for the quarter finals of UEFA Champions
League and their outcome in the competition would decide about the Italian’s future.
Desailly added that Chelsea has made a brilliant signing of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 in January 2011. The Brazilian has been in superb form since his arrival at the club and has won himself the player of the month award for March 2011. The Frenchman is confident that
Luiz is the perfect man to compliment http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 in the Chelsea defence.
Despite considering United as favourites to win the title this season, Desailly believes that the title battle in the next season will be very tough as a lot of teams have spent heavily on new players and with the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham also
making huge impressions in the past couple of seasons, it will be a mouth-watering campaign.
Answering questions about the prospects of other teams winning the title, Desailly said, “We will see what players get bought this season and then guess who can win. There has been a lot of talk about Manchester City because they have the money, but they
must buy top level players. Carlos Tevez is, what I would call, a first-choice world class player,”
