Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle speaks in support of Carlo Ancelotti
Former Chelsea player and manager Glenn Hoddle became the recent person to offer support to current Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti after speculation that he was on the verge of being sacked. Hoddle revealed he did not agree with the possible decision of facing
the boot because of his inability to lead the Blues to any silverware this season.
After winning the impressive domestic double of the English Premier League and the FA Cup in his first season with Chelsea, Ancelotti has failed to deliver any trophies this season. The latest disappointment came when Chelsea were eliminated from the UEFA
Champions League quarter-finals by Premier League rivals Manchester United.
The UEFA Champions League was Chelsea’s last realistic chance to secure silverware this season since they had been eliminated from the domestic cups earlier on in the season. The London side are unlikely to retain their Premier League crown, sitting at third
place on the Premier League table, 11 behind league leaders Manchester United, with a game in hand.
Even though Ancelotti has previously stated that he wishes to remain at the London club, it is understood http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 owner Roman Abramovich is unhappy with the Italian and is looking to replace him. Former Chelsea managers Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink are
among the many managers linked with the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.
Hoddle revealed he believed the Italian should be allowed to stay at Stamford Bridge, having proved himself in his first season. He said while speaking to reporters, “Carlo won the double last year and he hasn't done as well this year, it is pretty simple.
I think in football you need to get a balance. If you don't look at a balance you can make a mistake.”
Hoddle, who played for Chelsea in 1993-1995 and went on to manage the club shortly after his retirement, strongly felt that Ancelotti deserved a second chance. He continued, “He has had a really fantastic season and he has had one where obviously the owner
[Roman Abramovich] wants to win the Champions League and it has not happened.”
While Hoddle admitted he understood Abramovich’s frustration with not having won the coveted Champions League, he continued, “But they have a very good squad still, the ability to entice very good players to them and with a manager of his pedigree, why would
you want to start afresh again? I would say he definitely deserves another season, if not two.”
The former England international believes removing Ancelotti at this stage wasn’t the solution to a trophy-less season. Hoddle instead suggested the Blues building on what they already had, a very impressive squad. After all, it was this same squad which
broke and set records to win the double last season.
