Former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu signs two-year deal with Cesena, Fiorentina and Cesena both confirm
The 32-year-old Romanian striker Adrian Mutu is on his way to join Cesena, the Serie A side confirmed yesterday.
Even though the Italian outfit had previously claimed they were not interested in signing the Fiorentina forward, they seem to have come to an agreement with Mutu.
Fiorentina confirmed the agreement on their official website, wishing the player luck with his new club. The statement read:
“ACF Fiorentina communicates to have sold Adrian Mutu to Cesena Calcio on a permanent basis.
The club thanks http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrián-c3701 for his work over the past few seasons and wish him all the very best for the future.”
Cesena also confirmed the transfer, a statement released by the club said:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrian-Mutu-c3742 is a Cesena player. The agreement for the transfer, a two-year deal with the option for a third, was reached today [Thursday].”
According to Cesena, they had signed the 32-year-old former Chelsea striker on an initial two year deal, which could be extended to another year depending on Mutu’s performance.
The Cesena president Igor Campedelli revealed he was extremely pleased with having secured the services of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romania-c2990 international.
Campedelli admitted that while he had announced the Italian outfit had given up on Mutu, he was delighted to welcome the striker to Cesena.
The Cesena president said in an interview:
“I am very satisfied with the arrival of Mutu. We have been wanting him to wear this jersey for months, and we are very proud this happened.”
Mutu joins Cesena after a five year spell with Fiorentina, during which period he made 143 appearances in all competitions, scoring 69 goals.
Mutu himself revealed he was excited about making a move to Cesena, with whom he hoped to achieve success in the Serie A.
The Romanian striker said:
“I am enthusiastic and I cannot wait to start this adventure. I want to thank the president for having put me at the centre of this ambitious project.”
Before joining Fiorentina in 2006, Mutu played for top sides including Internazionale, Parma, Chelsea and Juventus.
His short career at English Premier League side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 came to an abrupt end in late 2004 when Mutu failed a drug test for cocaine.
He went on to make 38 appearances for the Blues in his time at Stamford Bridge and found the back of the net ten times.
The London side is still waiting for Mutu to pay the compensation he was ordered to pay by FIFA for breach of contract, an amount of CHF 50,000.
