Former Chicago White Sox Kevin Youkilis starts new era with New York Yankees – MLB Special
Former Chicago White Sox Kevin Youkilis has started his new beginning with the New York Yankees after agreeing to a one-year $12 million deal. The experienced third baseman will play mostly at third base position in the absence of Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
Rodriguez suffered an offseason injury and now expecting a hip surgery later in the month while this hip surgery potentially will obstruct him to return to the 2013 Major League Baseball season any time after the mid season break.
“Youk has always been a tough out, He’s a tough player, a winning player. Whatever the franchise wants to do, I think that’ll be a good move for us,” A-Rod said Saturday in Miami for Kevin Youkilis’ potential arrival in the New York Yankees explaining how he will play a vital role in team’s overall success.
Later Robinson Cano said over the weekend at David Ortiz’s charity golf outing in the Dominican Republic for potential arrival of new players, “There are some guys, the way they play the game, some pitchers, the way they pitch the game, you say, ‘This guy is not a nice person, I don’t think (Joba) ever hit him on purpose. I would tell you that (Joba) would be the first that’s gonna be happy to see him on our team.”
On the other end, the Yankees now feel quite confident that they have reached a mutual understanding with free agent Youkilis. Youkilis last played for the Chicago White Sox and showed a full spirited display of skills.
He finished with great numbers and went hitting at an average of .235 along with 19 homers, 60 RBIs and .336 OBP. He played some good innings and showed his true offensive class. Not only this past particular season, he is also carrying a good career .283 hitting average along with 148 home runs, 610 RBIs and .384 OBP which certainly makes him a good role player in the league.
Experts believe that this is a healthy sign that former White Sox and Boston Red Sox player will be a great addition for the Yankees to grow further in the new Major League competition.
