Former Cleveland Indians’ Jake Westbrook wins first World Series Ring – MLB Update
Former Cleveland Indians’ starting pitcher Jake Westbrook has won his first World Series Championship Ring with the St. Louis Cardinals when his side defeated the Texas Rangers 6-2 on Friday night in Game-7 of the 2011 World Series.
Jake Westbrook, who is highly recognised in Cleveland, finally won the prestigious honour with his new team in St. Louis after spending 11 years with the Indians’ roster. He performed tremendously and pitched with great energy throughout this whole season
and finally won his welcome Championship ring.
Despite performing in Game-7, he has also earned great acknowledgement in Game-6 when the Cardinals truly shattered the Rangers 10-9 in 11 inning game where Jake pitched two scoreless innings and gave no chance to the Rangers’ hitters, who were looking aggressive
down the stretch.
Later, in Game-7, the Texas Rangers could not perform well and lost an esteemed game in-front of over 47,000 spectators. Rangers’ manager Ron Washington tried to explain why his team lost the game, but his explanation was indecisive. Washington said, “Sometimes
when opportunity is in your presence, you certainly can't let it get away because sometimes it takes a while before it comes back. If there's one thing that happened in this World Series that I'll look back on is being so close, just having one pitch to be
made and one out to be gotten, and it could have been a different story.”
Though, the World Series was won by the Cardinals, but this was something of a bigger achievement for 34 year-old Westbrook. His utter belief in his game proved wonderful for him especially in this year. After being traded from the Indians in 2010, he flourished
his game in the Cardinals and worked-hard.
The two years were enough for him to understand the Cardinals environment and their playing style. He adjusted himself well in the 40-man roster and earned the trust of his coaches here at St. Louis. Soon all the coaches including the Cardinals’ manager
Tony La Russa also started to admire his game, who later gave him the chance to start as many games as he wanted to strengthen the game.
