Former D-League player Nick Fazekas expresses frustration over the NBA lockout
Former Nevada standout and NBA Development League’s (D-League) player Nick Fazekas has expressed his frustration over current NBA lockout. The work stoppage in the league has now entered in its fourth straight month.
Fazekas is not under contract with any NBA team, but he is trying very hard to make a comeback in the professional circuit again after a career threatening ankle injury last season with the D-League’s Reno Bighorns.
He spoke to the media on Wednesday and said, “It's the most frustrating thing in the world for me; it’s really just a waiting game. It's really frustrating, I have my hopes up and nothing gets resolved.”
Fazekas is currently in Los Vegas and busy in training for the upcoming season with his former Wolf Pack Teammate David Ellis. Fazekas is also deeply watching the whole negotiation process between the NBA owners and the Players
Association.
He also said about Tuesday’s meeting, “Yesterday was a big meeting as far as how the lockout goes. Nothing got resolved. It puts me further on the back burner.” He went to say, “Every Saturday I have to turn in my homework, I devoted
more time to basketball than school work, and I kind of regret that now. School took a back seat. Playing in the NBA was a dream of mine since I was 5 years old. I devoted every ounce of energy and time to basketball.”
Fazekas, who is not under contract with NBA, but has played for the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers in the past. He last played in the D-league for Reno Bighorns in 2010-2011 season but could not play the whole season
due to an fatal ankle injury.
When reporters asked Fazekas about his overseas playing chances, he explained about a person in Hungry who might help him in the near future. Fazekas is also doing some hard work and trying his best to get the European (Hungarian)
citizenship. This will help a lot to play in European basketball leagues. Fazekas has also played for couple of European teams including Belgian team Base Oostende and French Pro A club ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne from 2008-2009.
Like Fazekas, many other professional basketball players are also very frustrated over the ongoing lockout. No one is sure over as how long this lockout will prevail in the league. Many negotiations have been taken place between
the NBA owners and the players association but still no positive development has been made to end this labour dispute.
