Former Dallas Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith shares his views on Dez Bryant’s case – NFL News
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant’s arrest has caused a stir throughout the National Football League (NFL). While everyone around the league is commenting on his situation, former Cowboys star Emmitt Smith has also shared his views.
Bryant’s off-field record is not very ideal and his recent arrest, allegedly for assaulting his mother, has further damaged his reputation.
Everyone is disappointed, but Smith is of the view that the player needs time to get mature.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Smith said that every player needs time to get mature. He said:
“There’s enough people commenting on it, anyway, anything I do is going to be piling on. That’s a level of maturity that must take place . . . This is where people have to be patient with people like Dez or younger players.”
Smith mentioned that some people take more time than others to develop understanding of the realities around them and said:
“Everybody has to mature. Sometimes, some folks mature a lot quicker than others. I mean, that’s just something everybody has to be patient for. Just pray that the guy understands and gets it at some point. Because if he doesn’t, he’s definitely messing
with his future and he’s messing with his ability to really connect with the fans.”
Bryant’s childhood memories are very bleak. He was brought up in a chaotic manner as his parents were not in good books as per the law.
It was understood that all the dark experiences would reflect in his behaviour when he turned pro in 2010. He was fined by the Cowboys in his rookie season for punctuality issues, and his status always remains in jeopardy owing to his off-field activities.
His teammates and coaches claim that the player is good at heart and as an individual, but this is something that Bryant must also prove.
He has only played two seasons in the NFL and his prospects (performance wise) are bright. However, if he constantly remains involved in such disciplinary issues, he might become a liability for the Cowboys, who might not be interested in retaining him for
a long period of time.
