Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson backs quarterback Tony Romo – NFL News
There is no denying that there are plenty of haters of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, but the fact cannot be ignored that Romo’s critics generally get response from his supporters, who also are plenty in numbers.
The recent one to have come at Romo’s backing is the Cowboys former coach Jimmy Johnson, who thinks that Romo is capable of winning Super Bowl and sees the title coming in Dallas this season under Romo’s leadership.
While serving as the featured speaker at the PwC-SMU Athletic Forum on Wednesday, Johnson said of Romo:
“The guy is a great quarterback. You’ve got to win the ring to get it done. I think Romo can get it done. I love Tony Romo.”
The quarterback holds incredible records for both his franchise and the league. However, he is yet to win any major title, which, according to many, is the only achievement upon which a quarterback must be judged.
Romo has never been able to win any Super Bowl ring, and even though his career is highlighted with plenty of superb performances and he is statistically better than many of his counterparts, absence of Super Bowl ring still haunts him.
Romo’s last season performance was pretty commendable as well, as he nearly took the Cowboys into the playoffs. However, the Cowboys slumped towards the end of the season and lost the opportunity despite securing supremacy in the National Football Conference
(NFC) East division a few times.
Romo had one of the best performances of his career as he received quarterback rating of 102.5 for the entire season in which he completed 4,184 passing yards while scoring 31 touchdowns and throwing only 10 interceptions.
It looks like Romo is also frustrated over the criticism he has been facing of late. In a recent advertisement, he has hit out at his critics, saying:
"People focus on what we haven't accomplished. They focus on mistakes, the near misses, the heartbreaks. People say we haven't succeeded. People say we haven't won a championship. People critique our lives. People say we get too much praise.
“People are focused on what we haven't done. That’s what I’m focused on, too.”
