Former Detroit Pistons forward Rodney White arrested for growing weed: NBA Update
Former Detroit Pistons forward Rodney White has been arrested for “managing an indoor marijuana-growing operation in Alexander and Iredell counties.” The authorities arrested White from his residence together with a woman named
Nicole Denise Jackson. Three small kids were also present on the property when the arrest was made.
The raid was made on a tip according to which two men were involved in the illegal practice. White was one of them and he has already accepted the responsibility. He was sent to jail under a $25,000 bond, while his associate is
held under $5000 bond.
According to the official police statement, “During the search, an elaborate underground bunker was located, where detectives found a hidden marijuana grow room."
The bunker was built under a garage and it had a trap door. The authorities found more or less 60 plants that were almost 4 feet tall. The agents gained a search warrant on the base of their initial findings and set a search operation
on Montibello Drive in Mooresville.
During the search, the detectives found marijuana, in excess of four pounds, plus a mixed bag of weapons, planting materials, grow lights and other helping items that are used to grow marijuana.
The 31 year old White joined the league when he was drafted as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft by the Pistons. However, as time passed, he failed to live up to his potential and coach Rick Carlisle dropped him after
16 games during which he scored with an average of 3.5 points per game in 8.1 minutes.
Later Denver Nuggets took the gamble and landed White in their team by trading away bounty of two players along with the future first round pick. However, the deal did not pay off as White remained inconsistent with them.
Because of his uninspiring performance the Nuggets traded him along with another player to the Golden State Warriors. However, the Warriors dealt them away later to Philadelphia 76ers in 2005, as part of the Allen Iverson trade.
He was eventually cut by the Sixers and that put a full stop on his NBA career.
White spent five seasons in the league during which he played 218 games and tallied 7.1 points per game. His best season was 2002-03, when he scored at an average of nine points per game.
White later played in the European and Asian leagues with different teams. Recently, White had signed a contract with a South Korean sports club named Anyang KGC Pro Basketball Club. However, with the occurrence of this event,
White’s contract with the Korean club is now in danger.
