Former Dutch cyclist Michael Boogerd attacked Team Rabobank
Three-time formed Dutch National Champion Michael Boogerd has criticised the Dutch side, Team Rabobank and stated that the team has not used Bauke Mollema and Robert Gesink in the correct manner.
The 40-year-old briefed that the two cyclists are in a wrong team and are less likely to fulfil their Tour de France ambitions if they stay with the Dutch team.
He wrote in his latest Telesport column, “The Tour de France is approaching fast”.
"Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema are two riders who have already proven their status and I am convinced of their abilities”.
“But where I have my doubts is whether they are in the right environment to perform well in the Tour. Simply put, they might be on the wrong team,” he concluded.
“"Too often at Rabobank it seems that the talented riders can do no wrong”.
“Everything is done with a cloak of charity and everything is done as an investment in the future - there are always mitigating circumstances put forward”.
Gesink has filled his bag with an overall victory at the Tour of California along with the stage 7 victory at the race.
He joined Team Rabobank in 2007 and has helped the team during his six years stay with the side.
Robert holds as many as five Grand Tour appearances under his name including three Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana participations.
He secured the fifth overall spot during the Tour de France 2010 and occupied the 33 overall positions during the most recent edition of the race.
On the other hand, Bauke Mollema secured the third overall position during the Tour of the Basque Country and occupied the sixth overall position at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
He has shown loyalty with the Dutch side since 2008, participating in as many as three Grand Tour races in the past five years, including one Tour de France, one Giro d’Italia and one Vuelta a Espana under his belt.
Mollema finished fourth during the Vuelta a Espana 2011 and is optimistic to try his luck at the Tour de France 2012.
Only time will tell, if Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema makes are selected by Team Rabobank in the final Tour de France squad.
