Former EA President Frank Gibeau claims the PlayStation Vita is going to crush the Nintendo 3DS
EA President Frank Gibeau has come forth and admitted that the PlayStation Vita is going to stand a much higher chance of succeeding in the market, as compared to the Nintendo 3DS.
The Former EA president went on to admit that the Vita was going to be packing in a lot more technology and innovation into the Vita as compared to the 3DS and should they have a strong and stable software to go with it, then the 3DS could be blown out of
the market for good.
The 3DS has not been doing a little too good in the market, ever since it was launched some five months ago. The handheld has sold a significantly low number of units, compared to what Nintendo were expecting and considering the fact that the company had
to place a massive price cut on the unit already, it just goes to show that the company knows that their device is struggling in the market.
Gibeau went on to admit that the reason for the 3DS failing (or almost failing), was because smartphones were starting to take over.
“I think that part of the videogame business is tough right now because they have had some significant competition come in that was totally disruptive, and that was the smartphone,” said Gibeau.
He then turned his attention to the Vita and admitted that the Sony handheld had a far greater chance of breaking the smartphone market, due to the vast options that it is going to be offering, while incorporating a social aspect to the device as well.
“I think [Sony has] got a shot because they have some really unique innovation in the control scheme, the technology and the screen. It's got a lot of social features now so that you can actually communicate with your friends and be social,” he added.
Gibearu then ended by stating that apart from making phone calls, the Vita did almost everything that a smartphone can, while offering a little something extra. According to Gibeau, the only difference between the Vita and cellular phones, was the ability
to make phone calls.
With the Vita set to release in Japan before the end of the year and then being launched to the European and North American markets at the start of the coming year, it is now going to be a wait to see if Gibeau’s words are credible or not.
