Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff to undergo surgery on left leg
Former England captain and legendary all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flintoff-c44360 is going to have a major surgery on his left leg in order to live a routine life.
Flintoff last appeared for his country in the 2009 Ashes series in England and played a vital role in the English triumph. That was his last series as a player as he could not play competitive cricket after that and eventually retired from all forms of the
game.
The all-rounder said that that he was not fit for the majority of that Ashes but kept on playing for his country in order to regain the Urn. Flintoff’s efforts did not go in vain as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 went on to win the series.
He said, “After the 2009 (Ashes) series my knee was in bits, so I had the micro-fracture done the day after the Oval Test match but it was pretty clear I wasn't getting any better. I was getting on with the rehab but I was kidding myself that I was getting
better.”
Flintoff who is known as ‘Freddie’ in the cricketing world is rated as one of the best all-rounders of the modern game. He was a genuine match winner and was twice instrumental in helping England regain the Ashes in 2005 and 2009.
Apart from his devastating bowling, Freddie was a brilliant hard-hitting batsman who could change the complexion of the game within a short span of time. However, his career has been heavily jolted with injuries and he has already gone through 13 surgeries
in his career. That was the reason why he had to retire from the sport when he was only 31.
Freddie understands that he does not have any chance of returning to the game he has loved playing all his life and the reason for this surgery is to make sure that he can live a normal life and enjoy with his family.
“I want to be able to play football with my kids or, if I wanted to play a game of club cricket with my brother, I could do it. More than that, I just don't want to walk in pain,” Flintoff added.
It is a pity that the cricket fans around the world could not see more of Flintoff as he was a real entertainer and a great ambassador of the sport.
