Former England skipper Lawrence Dallaglio wants squad to find winning track before RWC kick off
The former skipper for England, Lawrence Dallaglio, has suggested the English side create a winning momentum before Rugby World Cup 2011 so that they have a good chance at the title. England is scheduled to play three warm-up matches before the global show
kicks off in New Zealand on September 9. Dallaglio expressed these thoughts in a media briefing on August 4 and said that to gain a winning momentum before the largest event of rugby of this year will be the key to book their seat in the semi-final stages.
Dallaglio, who represented his national side for 12 years, declared consistency key to produce some extraordinary results in the World Cup. He said that the English side is lacking wins which may be a big hurdle in their way to make their place in the top
four sides of the world.
The veteran has earned 85 international caps in his long rugby career for England. He made his debut for England in 1995 and played his last match of his esteemed career in 2007. He was one of the key men for England who helped lift their first ever Rugby
World Cup in 2003. He was the only player of the English side who played all matches of that world cup and played a vital role in his team’s victory.
Talking in a rugby show, Dallaglio said that he had learned the art of winning after defeats as most players do in their careers. He added that, “The art of winning is something that, for the majority of players, learns at the end of a career. For me and
a lot of my peers the art of winning was born out of a lot of very painful defeats. There were five big defeats in my career and they provided the biggest learning curve of my entire career.”
Talking about the current performance of England he said, “This current England team has had a couple - South Africa in the autumn and Ireland in the Six Nations last season.”
England missed its golden chance to grab a Grand Slam during the last match of the Six Nations Championship, this year as they lost their last match of the tournament to Ireland after winning all their matches.
