Former England under-21 international Jack Cork leaves Chelsea for Championship side Southampton
Jack Cork, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-21 international, confirmed he had left Chelsea to join Southampton on a permanent move. Since beginning his senior career with the Blues in 2006, Cork has been on loan for various Championship sides.
His first loan move in 2006 was with Bournemouth, whom he left in 2007 for a move to Scunthorpe United. The same year he moved to Southampton and then moved to Watford in 2009. The latter part of the 2009-2010 season was spent with Coventry City, after which
he spent two loan spells with Burnley.
After being six years on loan and no apparent chance of playing for the English Premier League giants, Cork decided it was time to leave Stamford Bridge. Talks were held between Southampton and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, with the Blues agreeing to let the versatile go for
an undisclosed fee.
Cork admitted it was a tough decision to leave English Premier League runners-up Chelsea for recently promoted Championship side Southampton. However, he revealed it was a decision he had to make to ensure he was guaranteed regular first team football.
Cork insisted Southampton were the team for him after their ambitious fight to reach the Championship from the League One. The former England under-21 international said he felt he could contribute towards the growth of the club and help them reach the Premier
League.
Cork said in an interview:
“There were other teams in for me but this always felt like the right option because this club is really going places and heading in the right direction, so I'm delighted to be here and can't wait for the season to start.
It was a massive decision to make. I had another year left at Chelsea, but I've been wanting to get away for a while and have been waiting for the right move to present itself.”
