Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger claims Stefano Domenicali does not know Sebastian Vettel’s potential
Former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger has recently stated that Stefano Domenicali is not aware of Sebastian Vettel’s capabilities as Ferrari’s team principal recently talked about his top 3 drivers in Formula 1 and his list did not include the reigning
world champion.
“If somebody has those (leadership) qualities then it is Sebastian. He showed it already with Toro Rosso and developed even further with Red Bull. It's not a question of age. For his age, in his head he is far ahead,” said Berger.
Domenicali stated that Vettel is still not as good as drivers like Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso as he is too young and lacks experience.
The reigning world champion has been criticised a lot since the past couple of weeks as he has a habit of winning races only when he is on pole position which, according to some critics, means that he is not a good race driver.
Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher and even Lewis Hamilton on the other hand have this capability of winning races even if they do not start from pole position as they are aggressive and good overtaking drivers.
Either way, Berger claims that Vettel has the qualities of a champion and a good race driver as he performs well even when he is under pressure.
“Mark Webber, for example, is a very good driver but under pressure he is not as strong. For Vettel many factors have come together, speed, diligence and meticulousness. He combines them all to get the optimum points possible,” said the former Formula 1
driver.
One has to admit that the current championship leader has performed really well even when he was with Toro Rosso which used to be a back running team back then.
Vettel secured a pole position followed by a victory with that team which earned him a seat at Red Bull Racing and in the process, he proved that he is one of those drivers who have the capability of pulling out the best possible performance from even a
weak car.
