Former F1 driver Karl Wendlinger feels impressed with Kimi Raikkonen’s performance – Formula 1 news
Former F1 driver Karl Wendlinger has said that he is extremely impressed with the performance of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far.
Raikkonen raced in the World Rally Championship during the last couple of years and returned to the sport with the Enstone based team. He has performed tremendously well in the season so far and has astonished everyone with his superb driving skills.
Although, he has not been able to claim victory in the season until now, nevertheless, he has secured five podium finishes and has successfully scored some competitive points for his team in the championship fight.
Meanwhile, Wendlinger has said that the Finnish driver has got an amazing talent as he strike back really well after remaining out of the game for the last two years.
“He is at a very high level,” Wendlinger said. “After a two year break, to have a lot of podiums already is sensational. He is very fast in the races and again and again is going for the wins.”
At present, the 2007 world champion is standing at fifth position in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. Additionally, he is just one point behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and has a strong lead over Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
Furthermore, the Austrian driver said that even though Raikkonen is at 5th place in the drivers’ rankings, nonetheless, he has a fantastic chance to win the championship title as he has got the competent car and all the potential to be one.
“Kimi was not world champion for nothing. His lifestyle was maybe not the best, but whoever can fight in the temperatures we saw in Hungary until the last lap must be in good condition,” he added.
It will be important to mention that another former F1 driver, Martin Brundle also said that he is really impressed by Raikkonen’s return with the British team in the current season.
“It really impresses me that he takes that much pain on what by any standards is a very successful return,” said the Briton.
