Former F1 driver Martin Brundle says Lewis Hamilton has four options for next season – Formula 1
Former F1 driver Martin Brundle has said that Lewis Hamilton of McLaren has four options before him for the next season and it all depends on his personal choice that whether he will stay in his current team or leave.
Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to be expired at the end of 2012 F1 season. However, it has been reported that McLaren has offered the British driver a contract worth 60 million pounds for the next three years.
However, Brundle said that his compatriot has options to move to other teams like Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and Mercedes.
“It's contract negotiation time but the question is where could he go?” Brundle said. “Mercedes-Benz are starting to go very well and he has a strong relationship with them. Ferrari, but would Alonso have him there? Red Bull, but would Vettel have Hamilton
there - or will Vettel indeed be there given there's talk of him moving to Ferrari? But while Hamilton may have four options, Brundle reckons it boils down to two choices; home comforts or a new adventure. He's comfortable at McLaren but will he fancy a bit
of fresh oxygen by going somewhere else?”
The 2008 world champion has emerged as one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far. He is currently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 63 points. Moreover, he is 4 points ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and 10 points
behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
In addition, he secured an impressive third podium finish in the first three races out of which he claimed the pole position in the first two of them. Later, in the fourth race he could only secure 8th place finish as he lost some crucial time due to poor
pit stop strategy.
Besides, in the fifth race, even though he topped the timesheets in the qualifying however he could not meet the minimum fuel requirement before moving back to the pits. Nevertheless, he came 8th even after starting from end of the grid.
Although, he started from 3rd grid position in the sixth race but could only secure 5th place finish. Nonetheless, he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal
on June 10.
