The two-time world champion said that he has been impressed by the performance of his compatriot, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus in the season so far.
“Based on practice – looking at how the cars behaved and how the drivers were driving – I have the impression that Kimi has very good performance,” the 1998 and 1999 world champion told Finnish broadcaster MTV3.
Furthermore, when he was asked about whether the British team will win the race ahead, he said that he is very much positive as they have got the car which is very well suited for the track of the next GP while he said that it is competent enough to claim
victory.
“I am quite certain,” added Hakkinen, referring to Lotus’ prospects of fielding a potentially winning car in Monte Carlo.
Lotus have emerged as one of the most competitive teams in the season until now with their competent car. They are presently standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 84 points. Moreover, they are 21 points ahead of Ferrari and 14 points
behind McLaren.
Besides, Raikkonen is at fourth place in the drivers’ rankings with 49 points. Additionally, he is 4 points behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and just one point ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
On the other hand, his teammate, Romain Grosjean has also shown quite convincing performances as he is currently at 8th position in the drivers’ standings with 35 points.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said during the start of the season that they should not be deemed as the second class team in the sport anymore as they believe that they have got all what it takes to be the
world champion.
Over and above, they have been trying their best to make the necessary developments and the essential preparations in order to enhance the pace of their car so as to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship fight.
