Former F1 driver Nigel Mansell: It is still difficult to beat Red Bull in 2011 season – Formula 1
Former Formula 1 racing driver Nigel Mansell has said that it is still difficult to beat Red Bull Racing in the remainder of the 2011 season as they are far ahead from other strong teams.
Mansell added that although Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso successfully caught Sebastian Vettel in the recently held British Grand Prix, but it is still impossible to beat him in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
The Brit mentioned that the Silverstone race weekend results were great for the Ferrari team as well as good for Formula 1.
Mansell said, “Red Bull was as strong as ever, second and third, which with its clear lead in the world championship is no problem. Red Bull are still going to be very, very difficult to beat.”
Vettel is moving in the right direction from the start of the season and performing very well for his team. He has won six races out of nine rounds so far. After winning the sixth race in Europe, the current world champion was tipped as the favourite to
win the 2011 title.
He failed to achieve his seventh victory in the recently held British Grand Prix following his strong start to the race weekend. Ferrari’s Alonso benefited from the pitstop error from Red Bull for Vettel during the race and continued his race with a lead
until the end. Due to the Spaniard’s win in Silverstone, Vettel finished at the second place ahead of his teammate Mark Webber.
On the other hand, Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa stated that he is agreed with Mansell’s comments about the Red Bull team.
The Brazilian said, “My experience in 2008 (against Lewis Hamilton) and Kimi’s in 2007 shows that anything can happen, even if this year (winning the title) will be difficult. Vettel would have to make a lot of mistakes.”
Vettel is leading with 204 points in the 2011 Formula 1 drivers’ championship and there is still a gap of 92 points between him and Alonso. However, Alonso needs to win more races in the ongoing season in order to challenge the German.
The next round of the season will take place on July 24, 2011 in Germany.
