Former F1 driver Niki Lauda shows concerns about inconsistency – Formula 1 news
Former F1 driver Niki Lauda has shown concerns about the inconsistency of 2012 Formula 1 season so far as there have been six different winners in the first six races.
The three-time world champion related the current scenario to the 1983 season and said that it was very appealing during the start however the viewers lost their interest as it progressed. Moreover, Nelson Piquet won the championship title in the end and
he was just two points ahead of Alain Prost.
“It was very interesting in beginning, we all were surprised,” he said. “But if this continues then we will lose spectators or interest because main public wants to see World Champions winning. We need two races with known winners and then crazy stuff can
start again.”
It will be important to mention that Lauda is not the only one who is worried about the lack of consistency as Jenson Button of McLaren has also said that the fans are finding the unpredictability of the season until now quite strange.
Although the 2009 world champion said that to see different winners was interesting for the spectators during the start however now they are losing their interest in the sport.
“Clearly everyone is excited about so many different winners, which initially was great for fans and great for sport. But there will come time when fans will say, ‘So anyone can win grand prix, everyone can lose a grand prix like that?” I think they're finding
it a little bit strange now,’” he said.
Nevertheless, he said that this will hopefully end after the next couple of races and the driver and the team will definitely emerge which can be seen as the upcoming world champions.
Over and above, all the contenders have been trying their best to make the necessary developments and the essential preparations in order to improve the pace of their cars for the approaching races so as to secure a competitive position in this season’s
championship battle.
It will be interesting to see how every performs in the Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10, 2012.
