Former F1 driver Sir Jackie Stewart insists Sebastian Vettel not to leave Red Bull – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Sir Jackie Stewart has said that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing should not leave his current team in order to join Ferrari as Fernando Alonso’s teammate.
Vettel has been linked with the Scarlet team as a potential replacement for their struggling driver, Felipe Massa for 2014. However, Stewart believes that the veteran German driver should not leave the defending champions as he thinks that Alonso is very
much matured and has a stronger influence over the Italian team.
“No I wouldn't. I wouldn't do that at this time. I think Alonso's far too strong for that. I think Alonso is so mature that he would see anybody off because of the relationship he has already built within Ferrari,” Stewart told F1.
Furthermore, he said that the youngest world champion has developed a very close relationship with the Milton Keynes based team which is very good for him and the team. In addition, he said that if he was in Vettel’s place, he would never change his team
until or unless a very bad thing happened.
“I think it's much better to let that pass for the moment and stay with Red Bull because he's got a team of people that he knows intimately now who are really imperative for him to have and they feel that it's imperative for them to have him. I wouldn't
break that mold at this time,” he added.
Besides, he said that before joining another team, a driver must assess that whether he will get what he deserves and what he wants to achieve in his career there.
It will be important to notify that there had been a lot of speculations that Ferrari has approached the teammate of the two-time world champion, Mark Webber to race for them in the next season. Conversely, the Australia driver signed a new agreement with
Red Bull for 2013 and expressed his inclination towards his own team.
Additionally, Vettel has also said that he can’t even imagine leaving his team at this point in time. Nonetheless, he admired the legacy of Ferrari which is the most successful team in the history of the sport.
