Former Fabulous Five Star Jimmy King Apprehended For Not Paying Child Support – NBA Update
Michigan’s Fabulous Five star, Jimmy King, was recently arrested on charges of failing to provide child support. The action was carried out by agents belonging to the Attorney General’s office in Michigan.
The 38 year old retired player was prosecuted with one count of failure to pay support and it is estimated that the maximum penalty for such a crime is a four year prison sentence. The agents have claimed that King owed around
$17209 for one child over a span of four years i.e. 2008-2011.
The arrest took place in Detroit at New St. Mark Baptist Church, where King was organizing a basketball camp for the youth. The lead for the agents came about through a flyer around that area which included details of King’s involvement.
It is reported that king was continuously contacted by the agents over the last 6 weeks or so, however, he never responded to any calls or mail for that matter.
King is last reported to have tweeted: “Great first day of camp today. Thanks parents, kids, & coaches!” A cash bond of $3500 was set up by the local court for his bail; however, last reports suggested that King was still in the
County jail.
King is not the first Fab Five member to be in the news of late. His former teammate Jalen Rose is also currently serving a 20 day sentence on charges of a first time drunk driving offense. Rose also pleaded not guilty over drunk
driving last year, but when presented infront of court and admitted his crime.
The Fabulous Five consisted of Jimmy King, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson and Chris Webber. They were all on the University of Michigan team, where they created quite a stir on a national level and revolutionized the game
of college basketball. Out of these players, only Juwan Howard is pursuing his career at the moment with the Miami Heat.
They Fabulous Five reached the NCAA championship in two consecutive years but were unfortunate enough to lose on both occasions; first to Duke and then to North Carolina. King made it to the NBA in 1995 where he was the 35th
pick. However, he only managed two seasons in the league with averages of 4.5 points and 1.4 assists per game. Later he worked as a radio analyst for the U-M games. He has also worked as an analyst for ESPN for some time and currently runs his own business
by the name of J King Solar Technologies, which provides solar equipment for commercial as well as household usage.
