Former Formula 1 boss Max Mosley loses privacy case
The European Court of Human Rights has recently announced that the bid submitted by Max Mosley regarding the “privacy issue” has been rejected by the court.
Max submitted a bid that the news organizations should notify their “victim” before revealing any sort of news about their private life but it seems that is not going to happen.
The court claims that this sort of change would create a “chilling effect” for freedom of speech, as a result of which, news would become unreliable and it would get delayed at a constant rate.
This case came into being back in 2008 when a news agency released news that Max Mosley was involved in various sexual relationships. The former president had some “sick n**i orgy with 5 hookers” according to the news, as a result of which, Max decided to
take a step against news corporations.
Mosley was the boss of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) from 1993-2009 and since he is the son of Oswald Mosley, a former leader of the British Union of Fascists, he sued the news agency claiming that this incident did not have a n**i
theme keeping in mind he did not reject that this incident did not take place.
The British court as a result called this story a “flagrant invasion of Max’s privacy” and fined that news agency for around £60,000, or nearly $100,000.
“Although punitive fines and criminal sanctions could be effective in encouraging pre-notification, that would have a chilling effect on journalism, even political and investigative reporting, both of which attracted a high level of protection under the
convention, that ran the risk of being incompatible with the convention requirements of freedom of expression”, according to the court’s statement.
This is going to dent Mosley’s image severely as he has already been going through a tough time since he retired from the sport. Nevertheless, the rejection of this bid is going to affect some of the other “major figures” of the world as well as they are
now going to be aware of the fact that they cannot question media’s statement regarding their personal lives if it’s somewhat true.
