Former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien admires Fernando Alonso of Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien has admired Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is leading the drivers’ championship in the season so far along with the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull after the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit
de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Even though, there have been five different winners in the first five races of the season who ran on entirely different cars’ setups which means that it is hard to make any projections about the races ahead. However, Klien said that he considers Alonso to
be the best of the drivers in this season.
“It [2012] is very open,” he said, “but for me Fernando Alonso stands out.”
The Spaniard secured an impressive fifth place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after starting from 12th grid position.
In the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he secured an amazing victory in rainy conditions after setting off from 8th place in the grid.
Afterwards, he struggled during the third and fourth race as he could only secure 9th and 7th place finish after qualifying for 9th grid position in both of them.
Recently, he has secured an incredible second podium finish in the last race held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona behind Pastor Maldonado of Williams who took his maiden victory.
Klien said that although the Scarlet team struggled with F2012 during the start of the season. Nonetheless, Alonso has still managed to deliver amazing performances.
“Alonso has an inferior car,” Klien explained. “But he uses every single little opportunity. He is the most complete driver who gets the most out of the package he has.”
Additionally, former F1 driver and three-time world champion, Sir Jackie Stewart, also said that Alonso is one of the most competitive drivers in this year’s championship.
“Everyone talks about Vettel, who is a great driver, and also Hamilton of course, but there is also Button, Schumacher, Kimi – all champions. There are others like Webber who also have the quality to win, young drivers coming up, many of them are very good,
but also it is true that Alonso is fantastic,” he said.
