Former Formula 1 drivers Martin Brundle, David Coulthard concerned with McLaren’s MP4-26 – Formula 1
Former Formula 1 drivers and analysts, Martin Brundle and David Coulthard have criticised the new McLaren MP4-26 for its reliability and speed.
They have said that the team should think about bringing in a new one. The founder of the Formula 1 Jordan team, Eddie Jordan, has also criticised the Britain-based team of their whole pre-season preparations and changing the technical staff every
year.
McLaren’s duo, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, has talked about this a lot that the new car is way off the pace than many of the champion teams this year.
With Button saying that on Wednesday that it will be no less pleasure if McLaren finishes third to Red Bull and Ferrari cars and Hamilton explaining that McLaren have a catching up car for the 2011 season, it is clear that McLaren’s championships hopes
are eclipsing even before the season has started.
Martin Brundle said that, “I watched the [McLaren] out on track a week ago and it's a mess. It didn't slow down. It didn't turn in. It couldn't get the power down. Lewis [Hamilton] looked absolutely at sea in the thing. Clearly they have a fundamental
issue.”
While David Coulthard expressed his feelings and said, “By the time you sort it [technical problem] out everyone will have brought their second and third upgrades along.”
Both Brundle and Coulthard have driven for McLaren in previous years and were very good with the car.
Eddie Jordan criticised McLaren’s decision of changing the technical staff every year and said that no champion team does that- citing the example of Red Bull racing team- which hampers the development process as it changes the whole mentality of the
team.
He said that as both drivers are not happy with the car’s development, McLaren might need a new car right before the Australian Grand Prix.
“I'm sorry, that is no longer possible and they [McLaren] are suffering as a result,” he said.
