Former Frankfurt manager Christoph Daum: Axing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 from the national team was unfair
Former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Christoph Daum has criticized German national team manager Joachim Low for the unfair treatment of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Ballack. He claimed that the midfielder is still fit enough to play at the highest level
and he should have been included as the team prepares for the European Championships next year.
Low had revealed last month that Michael Ballack will not be part of the German national team as he wants to promote young talent in order to be ready for Euro 2012 in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 next year. The manager also offered the
veteran to play in a farewell match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 in August which the latter declined.
Daum insisted that the German Football Association’s handling of the situation was unfair and the player should have been included in the squad as he is fit to play and can help the team with the immense experience he has. He admitted
that the whole situation could have been handled with a lot more maturity without disrespecting the midfielder.
“I do not know what the DFB hoped to achieve with this pseudo-diplomacy. If someone is good enough for the national team, he should play. If he is not, then they have to make this clear to him,” the former FC Koln boss was quoted
as saying in an interview.
The former Bayer Leverkusen manager said that Ballack does not deserve to be in the position he is right now and claimed the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 man made the right decision to reject the offer of a farewell match. Daum hailed the player’s
contribution over the years to the German national side and admitted that the German international deserved better.
“Michael has done nothing to earn such lack of understanding. For me, if he is physically in top condition, Michael is world-class. He has proven his qualities over and over again in recent years. I repeat: He is and will remain
an exceptional player,” he concluded.
Michael Ballack made 98 appearances for the national team and has so far scored an impressive 42 goals.
