Former French World Cup-Winning Footballer Zinedine Zidane set to Join Real Madrid’s Coaching Staff
Zinedine Zidane, the French legend, is close to signing a deal with Real Madrid and joining them in their coaching staff. Zidane has not issued any statement but Madrid’s manager, Jose Mourinho, has talked about the prospects of
him joining the side in the near future.
Jose Mourinho talked about the possibility of Zidane’s joining in a press interview. Mourinho claimed that the former Real Madrid player is very close to signing a deal with the club, but this was being looked after by the president
only. Mourinho also said that the Frenchman was a part of the history of Real Madrid, which gives him a legendary status. Therefore, he would always be welcomed by the club officials and players.
Zinedine Zidane was, probably, the best player of his generation, and has achieved a lot of milestones. He is the World Cup and Euro Cup winner in his time, and he has won everything with Real Madrid as well. Due to his extraordinary
achievements, Zidane was also termed as ‘FIFA World Player of the Year’ on three occasions. This is a landmark that probably makes Zidane the best player of the last decade.
The French maestro was known for his exceptional footwork and amazing skills. He was a true holding midfielder, who had a great eye for passing the ball. In many matches, he controlled the pace and flow of the game single-handedly.
Apart from his supernatural passing and rotation of play, Zidane showed flair during his matches, scoring important goals. He has scored in the World Cup final three times, and has also scored in a Champions League final for Real Madrid. This made Zidane a
reliable player and a genuine playmaker.
Ever since Zidane left Real Madrid, there has been a crisis in the midfield. The vacuum that he left behind was filled with many players who failed to make their mark. First, David Beckham was given an opportunity, as he was signed
from Manchester United. Although Beckham had his plus points, he never really looked like a player on the same calibre as Zidane. Beckham was better in taking free-kicks or hitting pin point crosses, but controlling the game was never his strong point. Therefore,
a player like Zidane remained missing from Madrid’s ranks.
The opportunity was later given to Wesley Sneijder of Netherlands. Although Sneijder showed a lot of class in play making, he lacked that flair to win important matches for Real Madrid. Therefore, Madrid had the worst of their
seasons when Sneijder was playing in a role of central midfielder. At the same time, Barcelona was becoming stronger than ever, which resulted in Madrid taking swift actions.
After Sneijder, Kaka and Xabi Alonso tried to assume the role of the legend, but they did not even come close to what Zidane had achieved. So, in the recent summer transfer window, Jose Mourinho bought Mesut Ozil, with a desire
that he would be able to fill the gap left since the Frenchman decided to retire from football.
One thing is for sure: Zidane would be directly associated with the young midfielders in Real Madrid. Currently, the two important subjects would be Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria. Both these players are still young and have a lot
of potential for improvement. Therefore, Zidane’s first coaching job would be the training of these two individuals up to the level of world class reliable midfielders. Apart from that, Cristiano Ronaldo would learn a lot from the legendary player, especially
dribbling skills and footwork. These are the areas where Ronaldo lags behind and Zidane would be helpful in his improvement.
This would be the first step for Zidane towards proper coaching and managing. Therefore, he would take this job very seriously, and at the same time, he would be learning a lot from Jose Mourinho. This learning experience would
help him to become a coach as great as he was a player.
