Former Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre to take over coaching role at Mississippi High School
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback and Future Hall of Famer Brett Favre is going to take his experience as one of the premier National Football League (NFL) quarterbacks and help out students at Oak Grove High School in Mississippi.
Favre who has been helping out the high school’s football team in an unofficial capacity is likely to take over the role of offensive coordinator this fall.
The news comes after The Biloxi Sun Herald got confirmation of the news from Favre’s agent Bus Cook.
Cook speaking to the newspaper said:
"He is taking a job out there. He is going out there, and it will give him something to do."
He also said that a specific role has not been discussed yet but the legendary quarterback will help out in some capacity.
According to the Associated Press he said:
"[Favre will work] to help out in some capacity, but I'm not sure exactly what his role will be."
The high school’s head coach Nevil Barr who is also a good friend of the quarterback said about Favre:
"Right now nothing is official."
Adding further he said:
"Brett is on vacation in Colorado, and we will talk on Monday. We will talk on Monday to see how involved he wants to be. We lost our offensive coordinator a few weeks ago. We have talked about it, and we will do more talking on Monday. It will be good for the kids. He is still very enthusiastic on the field."
The high school’s students will be thrilled to have such a legendary player coaching them this season and sharing his great experiences with them.
Favre nicknamed “Gunslinger” retired from the game in 2011 after playing for four franchises in his career.
His time with the Green Bay Packers was his most successful as he won the Super Bowl in 1996 and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) multiple times.
The quarterback still holds a number of NFL records and is considered one of the best players of his time.
This is the first time Favre will take on an official coaching stint and maybe in the future the legendary quarterback could become a coach of a NFL franchise.
