Former Houston Astros infielder Morgan Ensberg to run marathon for a cause- MLB News
Former Houston Astros infielder Morgan Ensberg will be making a return to Houston, to participate in a marathon for the Living Water International, a charity that is engaged in Africa in efforts to create sustainable water, hygiene and sanitation.
Morgan believes that the run for the noble cause will also help him in improving his own health. His wife Christi, and friends Adam and Jennifer Everett, too are participating in the event. Morgan has been preparing for the event since August.
"Ultimately, you're making yourself better, and you're doing it for a good cause," he said.
This is not the first time he will be running in a marathon. He has once run before in New York though that particular time he was not well prepared.
Morgan had a bit of struggle that time but was able to make it to the end. He will be running all of 26 miles in Houston while his wife and friends will opt for half point run.
Morgan was approached for the event by Kevin Edelbrock, the Chaplain of the Houston Astros.
"Kevin Edelbrock, the chaplain of the Astros, approached us about it," Ensberg said. "It's a great cause."
Ensberg knows that he will not be challenging the front runners as he is not a long distance runner. He will be running it at a slow and steady pace without really taking any shots on the records. Morgan is looking up to the challenge which he thinks will
also be fun.
"You have to understand, I am by no means a long-distance runner," he said. "It's a really slow pace, but it's forward progress, and that's what I'm about. I will not be challenging anybody for any world records, but it will be slow and steady. It's fun
to do and something that's challenging."
It will not be an easy process for the 37-year-old as it is not something that comes naturally to him and is not his strength. He finds it harder than playing baseball, something that he did for many years as a professional.
"I think, for me, this is much harder than baseball because it's not a strength," Morgan said.
Ensberg has a Major League career that spanned over eight years, most of them with the Houston ball club.  He played for a total of three teams in the Major League. He had decent career numbers, posting a .263 batting average and a .362 on-base percentage.
He had 347 career RBI’s and 110 home-runs. His career in the Majors came to an end in 2008.
It is good to see that players such as Morgan Ensberg are actively taking part in noble causes. It is a great example for others to follow and be a part of greater good. We hope that Morgan and his group have a good time at the event.
