Former Indian Hockey Coach Harendra Singh criticises Pargat Singh – Hockey News
Levelling allegations and criticising others is not a new thing in the hockey federations of Pakistan and India. The former officials lash out at the current office-bearers while the existing players comment about the former stars.
In a recent move former Indian Hockey Coach namely Harendra Singh flayed criticism on Hockey India Disciplinary Committee Chairman Pargat Singh accusing him of being the most undisciplined person in the federation. The former trainer had withdrawn the statements
within a few hours saying that he did not utter personal remarks.
Speaking to the journalists, Harendra was of the view that Pargat Singh had not served the Indian hockey and he played only for his betterment. He further said that Pargat was the only captain who faced the game-fixing charges. He termed, “He is the only
captain who has had allegations of match fixing against him. As skipper, he was the man who had asked Indian players not to score a goal (in 1995). There are numerous allegations against him.”
The former trainer continued saying that the allegations made back in 1995 when the game between Malaysia and India was ended at a scoreless draw and it allowed the former one to move in the title-claiming fight. He stated that Canada could have moved into
the finals if the Indian team won the match. The Canadians instantly filed a complaint with the international body but to no avail.
Harendra Singh while speaking further did not reconfirm the allegations but also said that it was not only example of match fixing against Pargat Singh. He opined that the existing chairman of Disciplinary Committee did not serve the country during his professional
career and it was acknowledged by everyone but still he was enjoying important role in the Hockey India.
He maintained, “Today he is talking about discipline when he was the first person to leave a national camp in 1989 because he wanted to be the captain. The next year, when players went on a strike demanding payments, he joined hands with the IHF and scuttled
our efforts, only because he wanted to become captain.” The most ridiculous thing is that Pargat Singh is currently heading Hockey India Disciplinary Committee, he added.
The former coach also lashed out at the Hockey India administration asking it to close their house if people like Pargat Singh will run the business. In his views, Pargat is currently serving on many posts including Chairman Technical Committee, In-charge
of the Selection Committee for the Indian trainer and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.
In response, Pargat Singh refuted to speak in this regard saying that he could not comment anything when someone lost his mental capacity.
On the other end, the former trainer withdrew from his statement what he expressed with wire service. Whatever the matter is, it will not serve the sport positively.
