Former Indian leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan pleased to see spinners galore in IPL
Former Indian leg-spinner and currently a commentator, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Laxman-Sivaramakrishnan-c72349 is quite pleased to see spinners performing well in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
Siva described that the importance of specialist spinners has been increasing dramatically in every format of the game.
The former Indian spin-master further explained that there was a time when no captain was willing to risk the inclusion of a specialist spinner in the Twenty-over game, however, the slow bowlers have now become a vital part of Twenty20 set-up.
Referring to the Monday’s contest between Pune Warriors and Chennai Super Kings, Siva pointed out that there were five specialist spinners, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shadab-Jakati-c2475, Rahul Sharma and Murali Kartik, playing from the two teams.
"Definitely, over the last few IPL seasons we have seen the importance of spinners in this format. Initially, people felt that spinners would find it tough in T20, but the leading wicket-taker in the last edition was a spinner (Pragyan Ojha), and that trend might continue this year," Sivaramakrishnan said.
Siva has represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 16 ODIs and nine Test matches. With 26 Test and 15 ODI wickets to his credit, unfortunately Siva could not secure a permanent place in the Indian team.
Soon after his Test debut in the 1983 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the aggressive leg-spinner appeared all set towards great heights, however, within two years, Siva disappeared from the International scene.
Siva, who himself was not able to stretch his international career, is enormously delighted to see spinners making an impact in the shorter version of the cricket.
He also heaped praise on captains, who have been using spin options outstandingly since the very first day of the lucrative Twenty20 league.

It must be noted that two out of the top three wicket-takers so far in the ongoing competition are slow bowlers.
Furthermore, the top-5 bowlers in the previous edition of the IPL include four specialist spinners.
