Former Indianapolis Colts DE Quinn Pitcock tells of video-game addiction impact on his career –NFL News
The story of former Indianapolis Colts’ defensive end, Quinn Pitcock, that he had an addiction to video games, which almost sucked his life away before being helped by his former employer to connect to a psychologist for the recovery and
rehab, has baffled the league.
Quinn admits that the teams can buy into the experiences of alcohol addiction or drug addiction but believing that someone is addicted to video games is too much for one to adjust.
He said of his experience:
"I'm somewhat of a pioneer."
Pitcock added:
“The only way I could get my endorphins was by playing video games. I would break the games, try to get rid of them, but I couldn't stop. I'd say, 'Quinn, what are you doing?' Physically, I could not put down a video game."
Although the player did not link his addiction to rather premature retirement from the professional league, he said it was a rash decision he regretted the time he had made and announced it.
He said:
"It was a rash decision. As soon as I made it, I wanted to play right away, but I was scared they didn't want me back."
He says he is lucky to have been helped by Colts to connect him with a psychologist and he started rehabilitation. Now the player aims to give another shot at the NFL career but is reluctant to try out his options.
Pitcock, who is a part of the Arena League's Orlando Predators, says he is unsure if the pro teams would like to have him back. He is particularly concerned about the uniqueness of his addiction, guessing what the teams should make out
of it.
According to him:
"I think teams are worried I may relapse. They're more comfortable with a drug addiction. It's unfortunate. It definitely hinders my chances."
However, it looks he might be able to win a place somewhere. It is not guaranteed if his former employer will be willing to give him another chance given they are in the phase of rebuilding and upgrade. If so, he must find himself lucky.
