Former Italy coach, Marcello Lippi admits interest in Chelsea, as Carlo Ancelotti expected to leave
The 63-year-old former Juventus and Italy national team coach, Marcello Lippi revealed in a recent interview that he was attracted to the English Premier League and would like to manage defending champions, Chelsea.
The Blues are currently going through a rough patch, and current manager, Carlo Ancelotti’s position is fairly uncertain. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 was eliminated from the Champions League last night by Manchester United, as were their hopes of claiming silverware this season.
Having previously been dismissed from the FA Cup and the Carling Cup, the English Premier League is the only trophy Chelsea can compete for. That too is a long shot, with the Blues currently at third place - eight points behind league leaders, Manchester United.
Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich is recognised for sacking managers who fail to deliver and if history is to be believed, it seems Ancelotti’s days at Stamford Bridge are numbered. The Italian manager will not have any trouble finding a new job, especially if rumours that hint at a possible link-up to Serie A side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 turn out to be true.
The Blues, however, will find themselves in a fix in trying to find a suitable replacement, since no manager prefers being unemployed mid-season. Examples include, Jose Mourinho and Luiz Felipe Scolari, both of whom were dismissed mid-season because Abramovich was not pleased with their efforts.
Nonetheless, Lippi recently spoke out on his desire to make a comeback to coaching and revealed he was targeting the English Premier League. The Italian has been linked with various other posts in different leagues but seems to have his sight on Chelsea.
Lippi said while speaking to reporters, “I would love to coach in the Premier League, English football fascinates me. I miss coaching, this is normal. Me to Chelsea? It would be beautiful. But also to coach a national team would not be bad.”
The Italian was named in the Times top 50 managers of all time in 2007, and rightly so. He has been equally impressive with clubs as he has been with the Italian national side. Lippi, to his credit has five Serie A titles, four Italian Supercup titles among other various cups, and most noticeably, the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Throughout his coaching career, Lippi has remained focused in the Serie A and is now considering testing out his tactical abilities in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. That would indeed be a tough test, especially at the Bridge, with many brilliant managers having failed to make it.
Carlo Ancelotti could soon be joining their ranks, despite his claims that he does not fear for his job. The former AC Milan boss is most likely to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, if he does not face the axe after an extremely disappointing second season at the club.
