Former Jacksonville Jaguars DE Jeff Lageman supports Blaine Gabbert over Chad Henne – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, who is coming off a poor rookie year’s performance, has found a supportive, rather consolatory, voice in a former Jaguar, who thinks Blaine is a better player than his senior colleague,
Chad Henne, the five-year veteran backup QB.
Former defensive end, Jeff Lageman, in recent remarks to a section of media said Blaine "is clearly a better passer than Chad Henne after the spring workouts."
His statement should come as a sigh relief for Blaine after the first-year coach, Mike Mularkey, posed confidence into his abilities and shown willingness to commit him to the starting position for another season.
Blaine has taken too much battering since his consistent failings on the starting line into his first year appearance under supervision of former coach, Del Rio.
The coach himself was subjected to a persistent wave of criticism from commentators and journalists over his decision to leave the then rookie into the leading role. Unfortunately, Blaine never clicked to form and it cost Rio his job at
the end.
Mike, the new coach, who met the QB soon after arriving in Jacksonville earlier this year, has decided to give him another chance, and now all eyes are on Gabbert. He must come out on the field with a noticeable improvement in his form
as a starter.
Some game punters think the team should also give a shot to the backup QB, Henne, instead of continuously trying Gabbert out.
Jeff, the former Jag, does not agree to the proposition. He believes Gabbert is a far better player in spite of his failures.
It is pertinent to note here that Henne has some experience on the starting line. He started a few games at the Miami Dolphins, and can possibly be placed into the leading role if Gabbert stumbles again.
Both players are going to hit training camp later this month. It is to see if Henne is given an opportunity to take snaps with starters in training camp. Nevertheless, Jaguars should at least try him out to see how he goes about it.
