Former Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved reveals Jose Mourinho wanted him to join Inter Milan
Former Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved has revealed that Jose Mourinho urged him to join Inter Milan and promised him that he will win the UEFA Champions League in the 2009-10 season.
Nedved ended his professional football career with Juventus in 2009. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 midfielder has won several honours throughout his career but has never won a Champions League title. He won the runners-up medal in the 2002-03 campaign.
The 38-year-old added that he had a dream of winning the Champions League but unfortunately for him he never won the competition. Mourinho believed that Nedved’s dream could be achieved had he joined the Italian champions but the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 midfielder
refused him.
Nedved was a loyal follower and a player for Juventus and there was no chance of him joining their bitter rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567. The former Sparta Prague midfielder stayed with the Turin-based club even when they were relegated to the Serie B in the 2006-07 season.
Several of their top players including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluca-Zambrotta-c14831 left the Old Lady but Nedved remained faithful to the club he supported during his childhood days.
Nedved revealed that he was not tempted by Mourinho’s offer because he never thought of betraying his old club. The current Real Madrid manager managed to win the Champions League that season but Nedved has no regrets for his decision.
Talking to the reporters Nedved said, “Mourinho courted me constantly and said 'Come to Inter, I'll make you win the Champions League. He was convinced that he would take the trophy and he was right. But I was and am a Juventino, so I said no. I loved Juventus
too much to join Inter.”
“I really wish I'd been able to win the Champions League with Juve, but I couldn't do it with another jersey on my back,” he added.
Nedved joined Juventus in 2001 and enjoyed a lot of success in his almost 8-year stay at the club. He helped them win four League titles, two Coppa Italia and finished runners-up in the 2002-03 Champions League final. He also won the Ballon d’Or award in
2003.
Since his retirement, Nedved is working as Director for the Turin-based club.
