Riise joined the Roman side in 2008 and has cemented his place in the first team ever since. While giving an interview to the local media, the 30-year-old admitted that Liverpool are a great side and a very passionate club. His time with Liverpool was simply
unforgettable and there is a chance that he might return to Anfield at the end of the current campaign. He also remembered the seven years spent with the Reds and said that he has fond memories of playing under Rafa Benitez and wished for that time to come
back.
However, the defender has now taken a U-turn saying that he is completely at ease with the Giallorossi and would like to end his career in the Giallorossi jersey.
When quizzed upon his change of mind, Riise mentioned, “I do many interviews in a week and I do not remember what I say, and I often mention Liverpool. I spent seven wonderful years there and I have happy memories of my experience.”
He also praised the Giallorossi fans, saying that the supporters have been quite phenomenal. He said that the fans have given a lot of respect and wished to pay them back by helping his side win Silverware.
When asked about his Roma future, the 30-year-old said, “However, the fact is that I like playing in Rome and my agent has spent a lot of time in contact with the club about a renewal. Now, with the new owners who will arrive in a few weeks, we can see if
we can find an agreement for a contract of four or five years.”
AS Roma are currently sixth in the Serie A with 60 points and are fighting for that elusive Champions League spot with three games left to play in the campaign.
