Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes Kenny Dalglish cost him his job – EPL news
Former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that Kenny Dalglish’s presence at Anfield played a major part in his dismissal from the club in January 2011.
Roy Hodgson endured a torrid time as the Reds manager. The Englishman was given the job at the start of the ongoing 2010-11 season, but he failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. Under Hodgson, Liverpool got off to their worst start in the Premier
League in over 50 years. At one time, things were so bad that the Reds were floundering in the relegation zone.
After six lacklustre months, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 fans had had enough. The Anfield crowd called out for Hodgson’s dismissal and demanded the return of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish at the helm.
However, Hodgson believes that it is no consequence that it was Dalglish whose name the fans chanted. The legendary Scot had made it clear prior to Hodgson’s arrival at the helm that he wanted the Liverpool job. Roy Hodgson claims that he had no chance against
the iconic status of Kenny Dalglish, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the club after just six months in charge.
Speaking on the matter, Roy Hodgson said, “It's difficult to compete with icons. I came to the right club, perhaps I didn't come at the right time because Kenny did make it clear at that time that he wanted the job. The people who were making the decisions
at that time decided to go for me, and as a result that left Kenny in a difficult position because he is one who wanted the job.”
He added, “So when things didn't go well, having him in the background wasn't easy and wouldn't have been easy for any coach.”
The West Bromwich Albion manager will be looking to get one over on his old employers when Liverpool visit the Hawthorns on Saturday, 2 April, 2011. If Hodgson manages to lead his team to victory on the day, it would go a long way towards healing his old
Anfield wounds.
