Former Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson partners with an Education Company – NBA Update
On Monday, former Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson announced his affiliation with a New York based non-profit education company. Johnson has joined Edison Learning Inc, which will facilitate in dropout prevention and recovery
centres for high school students. The main idea of setting up those centres is to help out high school students who are trying to complete their diplomas after dropping out or at risk of leaving their institutions. Magic Johnson’s partnership with Edison Learning
will be called “Magic Johnson-Edison Learning Assist.”
Johnson also spoke to the media and explained about his new venture with an education company. He described in great detail and said, "Improving the quality of life for people residing in urban areas is my life's passion, and through
Magic Johnson Enterprises we have been part of positive change in these communities, When just over 40 percent of students in Los Angeles, Houston, and Baltimore are graduating from high school; and less than 30 percent of black males in New York, Detroit
and Miami – steps need to be taken to recapture these students into the education system to better their opportunities in life. Magic Johnson-Edison Learning Assist will directly address this crisis."
Edison Learning is for-profit education company which provides many services to high school managements in several districts and especially in urban areas. Magic Johnson-Edison Learning Assist will help urban high schools for sustaining
their performance and assist them making productive strategies in accordance to reduce dropout rate.
His partnership will try to improve the graduation rate in those particulars districts while improvement in overall education system of those schools. Johnson’s new venture with Edison Learning will also help out those school’s
certain operations, which include, choosing staff, and new curriculums.
After Johnson’s official announcement in the media, Edison Learning spokeswoman April Hattori confirmed about the new 25 dropout recovery centres which will eventually be named Magic Johnson Bridgescape by 2013.
Edison Learning Inc current president and Chief Executive Organisation (CEO) Jeff Wahl also hoped for better future with Johnson and acknowledged his new partnership with Magic Johnson.
Johnson had a tremendous basketball career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and played his entire career in the Los Angeles Lakers. After playing 17 years for the Lakers, he won total five NBA Championships.
