Former MLB player Angel Santos Berrios charged with drug trafficking – MLB News
As per reports, former Major League Baseball player Angel Santos Berrios has been charged with drug trafficking, along with other 39 members of the group.
These 40 individuals have been carrying their work successfully since 2000 and have always managed to escape the eyes of the authorities.
The procedure through which they undertook their illegal activities has also been revealed. It is being hoped that the detection of the group will be a breakthrough for the investigation of other suspected crews involved in unlawful activities.
It is concerning for MLB that one of the indicted members remained part of some of the teams working under their jurisdiction. For many, the revelation may be the confirmation of the suspicion that as soon as some of the players leave baseball, they become
part of drug trafficking.
In this way, they may be aiding existing players get drugs and use performance enhancing substances.
Despite introducing a number of measures, MLB has not yet eliminated the curse of drug-usage by players.
Even during the 2012 regular season, some players were reported to be using drugs. Although they were fixed by being slammed punishments from MLB, there is hardly any guarantee that drug-related activities have been stopped.
Apart from players, agents have also been suspected. Earlier it came out that an agent for the New York Mets’ third baseman David Wright was an accomplice in transferring drugs to the players. All these incidents point to the fact that number of ways has
been devised for delivering drugs to the players.
It appears that the drug-usage has become so institutionalised that tracing the real culprits becomes improbable if not impossible for MLB.
It is extremely important that those members of the teams that make records actually do so using legitimate means. Anything accomplished by breaching rules will not only be counter-productive for the players but will also plague the beauty of the game.
It is unacceptable to the fans that stars they eulogise every day quite possibly rely on illegal means to enhance their performance.
It is hoped that state officials take serious notice of the revelation of the name of a former MLB player in drug trafficking and that a thorough investigation follows.
