Former MLB player Danny Clyburn Jr. killed in Lancaster – MLB News
According to several police reports, former Major League Baseball player Danny Clyburn Jr. was killed in shoot-out in South California at Lancaster on late Wednesday night. Police has also arrested Derrick Lamont Mcilwain on charges of murder and possession of a weapon.
A former player of Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays, Danny Clyburn Jr. got caught in an argument with a man just moments before he was shot. Though autopsy reports are still to come out in the media but police sources did state that he was shot multiple times.
After hearing this sad news, Danny Clyburn Sr. spoke of his son's death saying, “It's on and off, when you're thinking about it, not thinking about it... He was a good son of mine. He tried hard to stay on top level, always tried hard. He worked hard in baseball and professional life. I was very elated and happy for him on his success. He did what he talked about doing and what he had faith in.”
Later, the former Rays' general manager Chuck LaMar stated in the media describing in detail regarding Clyburn Jr. He said, “He had outstanding God-given talent, loved to play the game, worked hard every day and carried himself in a quiet, classy manner, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
Playing at the out-field position during his entire career, Clyburn Jr. was considered to be a relatively good player. Achieving .211 batting average along with four home-runs and eight RBIs Clyburn Jr. certainly had some huge talent. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992 during the amateur draft and started playing in their Minor League while eventually getting traded to the Orioles and later to the Rays.
However, as his career started to mature, he left the game without giving any serious reasons. He told the media that it was due to some personal reasons, he was quitting his professional baseball career. Many baseball experts are now publically expressing that Clyburn’s death culprits should not be given any leniency and the court should be making an example of them by giving a tough punishment.
