Former Major Leaguer Pedro Martinez gets open invitation from the Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
Former Major League Baseball All-Star Pedro Martinez has indicated that the Boston Red Sox management offered him an open invitation. Martinez, who has not pitched since playing his last season with Philadelphia Phillies in 2009, has already received offers
from several Major League teams for a potential returned on the mound.
“That’s pretty much the way our relationship is, I’m really good friends with Ben Cherington. Any time I say, ‘Hey, I want to go,’ I have an open door. I want to get close to Ben Cherington and (team president Larry) Lucchino, learn a little bit, see if
I like the office or more on the field,” Martinez said and gave some details.
However, his close sources say that Pedro now wants to start his career with a different responsibility of making strategies for players on the field. Pedro, after spending three years out from the field, now has developed a desire to involve in strategic
roles with any good franchise.
Martinez added and explained with confidence, “I would have loved to face Roger Clemens when he was Roger Clemens with nothing, I would have loved to face him all the time. That’s all I can say. Beat me or not, that was the best I had — and clean.”
During a recent gathering of a golf fund raiser game, he indirectly showed his interest to manage the Boston Red Sox in future. Though at the moment, this interest of managing a Major League franchise is slight out of question for Pedro as he has no prior
experience managing or coaching any team.
However, the Red Sox might give him a job with a special assistant to manager or hitting coach to prepare him for a bigger task in the future. Experts also believe, that to give Pedro a managerial job, is still an early call.
In the meanwhile, looking at his past experience and the level of performance he has shown in his long Major League career is still a big achievement for Pedro and if in future any managerial job came up, he will probably be the most distinctive candidate.
