Joey Barton, who once wore the sky blue shirt of Manchester City admits he is relishing the prospect of playing against his former side and admits he cannot wait for the Barclays Premier League match.
Manchester City will host Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 in what will be both teams’ final match of the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season. QPR need just one point to guarantee their survival in the league and avoid a potential drop to the Championship.
QPR manager, Mark Hughes, may not have enjoyed his time at the Etihad Stadium, after he was unceremoniously asked to vacate his post as the manager of the City side. However, since then he has given his current side a real shot at staying in the Barclays
Premier League stringing together a series of impressive results that sees them currently sit above the relegation zone.
The match will also put another former Manchester City employee, Joey Barton, against the club and Barton is hoping to cause an upset on the final match of the season.
Barton said, “I can’t wait for the game. I can’t wait to go to Man City. They expect us to turn up and them to probably stuff us and win the league.”
City need to win the match against QPR as the result would crown them Barclays Premier League Champions, however it seems that their opponents are more than up for the occasion.
Barton went on to rouse his teammates when he said, “If that is their attitude, they will get a reality check. Its 11 men against 11, there is a lot of pressure out there. I can’t wait.”
As for his personal form, Barton claims to thrive under pressure and criticism and used the analogy of needing a “rocket up” his “backside” in order to be at the top of his game.
It will be interesting to see if City can hold their nerve in what is the club’s most important match in their recent history and whether or not QPR can do Manchester United a favour and hold them to a draw or even pull off a surprise win.
